Creativity and New Media
I personally believe that new media does foster creativity. Like most social network users, I am very keen on Instagram. Not only does Instagram allow me to post images of myself, direct message friends, post on my story, partake in live videos, and mindlessly scroll through posts for hours, it also lets me market myself. I use Instagram to market my services and creations. I like to create new eyeshadow looks and upload makeup videos. Instagram gives me the liberty to share my creative eye looks with others. It also lets me look at other makeup looks, which sometime I like to recreate.
I truly believe that makeup is a form of art. Many need to understand which colors go together, what colors best match your skin, and what products best work for your skin type. I have learned most of these things through Instagram and YouTube. YouTube is another social network that helps foster creativity. I am still learning everyday, but the things that I have learned I like to share them to my followers through my posts and stories. When I upload a video, I use iMovie to cut and edit the videos together and stories are a quick tutorials. Editing is also a new media that nourishes creativity because I decided how the videos will look and can be as creative as I chose.
Instagram is a place where many artists are allowed to be free. It’s not bounded to just makeup, but to photographers, singers, dancers, etc. It lets many artists share their work with others and be seen my many. It also helps them make profit. I sometimes also do prom and wedding makeup, so not only does Instagram let me express myself, it also brings me some profit. In this new age, social networks become your best friend.
I 100% agree with everything you said! New media has created such great ways for people to share their talents with the world, especially Instagram. It's so easy for anyone to start and they can reach so many people. I've encountered such amazing makeup artists, clothing designers, jewelry designers, artists, etc. through Instagram. It's become such a great tool for someone wanting to start a business too. While before people would look to create websites to get their products out there, nowadays people use just Instagram for their business; they're able to market their products, reach their audience and basically run their business through that one app. It's really amazing that it's possible, but it could be a little scary as well if maybe one day the app were to malfunction, people that rely on it for business would suffer. So although it's great, there still could be a downside to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this! So many people like influencers are gaining fame and creating a career out of social media because they can share their talents and creativity. If not for social media, a lot of you-tubers and instagram influencers wouldn't be where they are today. Social media has created a lot of new innovative jobs for a lot of people. It has broken the "traditional" way of working a 9-5 and working for a company.
