Blog: Social Networking Sites

Facebook: This social networking site was the first social networking sites to turn heads. When it first came out, it was its peak. Everyone created a page and began to add their friends and update their status. Facebook first started in 2004 and everyone wanted in. Everyone wanted to posts pictures, write statuses, write on friends pages, comment of post, send messages, make group chats and poke their friends to annoy them. It was for all age groups from 13 and up. Nowadays, its for mostly older adult because there are other social networking apps that are currently the rave. Personally, I used to be obsessed with Facebook a few years ago before Instagram came out and felt the need to document everything on my profile. Now my interests have shifted forward, but it is still popular for my parents and their friends.

Twitter: Twitter is another social network that allows many to post statuses. But unlike Facebook, it became a place for people to practice their opinions and preach their believes. I believe it’s a safe place to conversate on. Twitter allows you to tweet, retweet, and reply. Its bounded to about 280 characters, which means it’s a short update and keeps a lot of people's attention. Twitter also allows hashtags, which help categorize tweets. Many can search up a hashtag and read relevant tweets. Hashtags also create trending tweets. The trending feature on Twitter also categorize relevant tweets and usually talk about important issues. Twitter is a place where many can talk about politics, their favorite shows, their depression, celebrities, the environment, anything and everything. It gives the opportunity to be you.

Instagram: This is one the newer social networks. This is where younger generations posts pictures and videos of themselves. Instagram allows you to post pictures and videos, which can be edited on the app and where followers can like and comment on it. Instagram also recently created new features, such as direct messages, stories, lives and boomerangs. Instagram is mostly a place where you can follow friends, families and celebrities. Usually the more followers one has, the more popular they are. It’s a place where many careers take off too for their creativity. There are alot of influencers, videographers, and photographers who show off their work and promote themselves. Companies also use instagram to advertise and promote themselves too. It is currently one of the popular social networks at the moment.

Snapchat: This is also another new popular social network. This is used to upload stories and message friends. At first, it was an app that allowed people to send 10 second video and pictures with captions. After 10 seconds, the video or picture would be gone forever. But now with the new features, videos are longer than 10 secs and if a friend sends a story back, it can be saved on the message thread. There are other features, such as filters, geo-filters, bitmojis, streaks, memories, flashbacks and a map. People can have a bitmoji, which is a character that looks like them. They have filters, such as the dog filters, the heart filter, the fire filter and many many more. Snapchat includes a geo-filter feature where people can show others where they are currently. The streak feature, allows you and another person to snap each other for consecutive days and snapchat keeps account for them. Snapchat incorporated a memories and flashback feature, which allows people to keep their snaps forever and relive them from a year ago. Lastly, they incorporated a map, which pinpoints where you are and you friends are. I personally think it’s unsafe, but they allow a ghost mode, which turns off your location. This is one of the more hyped up social medias.

  1. I totally love your takes on all the sites and feel the same way about most of them. I also found it interesting that you included Snapchat on there because while it is a social networking app, I wouldn't count it as a site due to you not being able to use the platform on a website.
